We just got sweet baby "D" about 30 minutes ago. He's been changed, fed and is now resting. We appreciate your prayers so much. This morning he weighed 5lbs 4oz. He's soooo tiny. Elizabeth is already taking charge and being a little Mommy. I will post more later.
Yeah!!!!

My stomach just turned upside down just thinking about it...... a newborn on short notice????? I am so impressed by your peace! I can't wait to hear more about him. This is amazing!

I am not sure how to have a "guarded" heart when a newborn comes into your home. When our boys came to us, one was 22 months, one 10 months and the last a newborn. The difference between the fostering situation - we knew these children were OURS from the start. We knew they were going to terminate - the first two we received as a foster to adopt situation - the biological parents were not interested until they realized we were going to adopt the boys. After a year, a newborn sibling was born and we received him at 4 days old. We took him into our family immediately - expecting adoption for him as well. Now, all parental ties have been termited for all three and we await adoption this summer. As I think I mentioned in a previous comment, we offer respit care and have cared for two wee ones for a short time each. Our home remains open for the plans that God has for our family - more children? Only God knows!
ReplyDeleteAs a Mom, you know the feelings that flood your heart when you hold that newborn for the first time - it isn't any different with Foster Children - they each need your love and rearing just like biological children. Receiving a newborn is awesome! Just love that little one like you would your biological children - if the baby will return home at some point, just keep that in the back of your mind and that way, there won't be any surprises. When you receive older children than age one, be prepared for the emotional, developmental, behavioral "baggage" that comes along with them. We don't know all that has happened to children that we receive - it would probably horrify us. Trust in God every step of the way - most times, He is the only one that can undertand.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be afraid to give a mother's love!
I can not believe you already have a new little person in your house. I can not wait to meet him. Congrats on another little boy.
