Well, I went back to the Doctor this morning for my 41 week check up.
What's that? You didn't know that a 41 week check up was part of a routine OB package?
For the general population it's not. They reserve the extra long gestation periods for special people. Or maybe just for me. The latest update is that my cervix has not changed since last week and I am still 2 - 3 cm dilated. He did say that he thought the baby was in a "good birthing position."
Good to know.
Also, and possibly the thing I have the most anxiety about, is that my OB is leaving to go out of town on Wednesday and won't be back until sometime on Saturday (I think). Normally, in an OB/GYN practice this isn't a big deal. Another doctor you've previously visited within the practice just delivers your baby and all is hunky-dory.
Well, you see, I switched from my previous OB/GYN's office (which had a 5 doctor rotation) to this new office because this Doctor had a Midwife. And, truthfully, she was the big draw for me. But, about 2 months ago the Midwife left the practice and moved to another city. So that just left the 1 doctor. He is supremely nice and very laid back. But, for the last few months he's be doctoring it up solo. Which means if Baby comes Wednesday through Friday (or possibly Saturday or Sunday) a doctor from a "partner practice" will deliver me.
A stranger.
Someone that I've never met (which is the definition of a stranger, isn't it?).
I mean, it's not like the doctor is in the delivery room for that long anyway but still, it's not my doctor. Oh well.
Add to all of that that we are tentatively set to close on our house sometime Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and I believe that is the perfect cocktail for a baby coming. I mean, if walking and sex and pineapple and pumping and bouncing on the birthing ball can't make this baby come out, then surely my Doctor being out of town and a major financial transaction should be the perfect storm, don't you think?
I feel so bad for you!!! I bet A. you are miserable... B. that is the last thing you needed to hear that you may have to deliver with a stranger...C. that nothing has changed... and D. that the baby "seems" to be in the right position... Praying for you!
ReplyDeleteTrue...I think babies always come when the doctor that you don't want is on rotation. Seriously...both my girls did that to me. Strangely...each doctor that delivered my girls was a blessing--I think they were perfectly chosen for my delivery.
ReplyDeleteI'm continuing to pray for you...baby...and your very hospitable womb--and that you weather this perfect storm. I think you will...just a hunch :-)
Praying for you and for God's perfect timing-even if it is ironic!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you want to take a wild ride in Richard's mustang, it is much better than the bouncy ball. You don't have to do anything but say OUCH, every millisecond!
We can get that baby out in no time-Call if interested!
I think that this sound like a great time to have a baby...if only there was a full moon. No luck of that till the 30th and that is just WAY TOO LONG!
ReplyDeleteYou beat Betsy on who could hold their baby in the longest. She had Drew last night. She had made plans with me today, so I keep telling you to make plans with me and baby will come...heeheehee
Praying for ya!
You forgot the part where you're awesome babysitter and favorite person, AKA me, just left to go back to school, and can't get to your house in 10 minutes notice if Agent 6 decides s/he REALLY wants to be born.
ReplyDeleteTry to hold out till Friday afternoon! I can be back then. :)
Huhhuhuh. You said sex! Thanks for the visual, dear. :-)
ReplyDeleteJust kidding. Sort of.
Yeah, dumb dumb me thought, "what do pineapples and sex have in common?"
ReplyDeleteDuh!
I can predict what's going to happen...your water is going to break during the closing. You will refuse to leave without finishing the closing (I mean you're there already right) and the baby will come just after you get to the hospital with minimal pushing and almost no pain.
Now, if we can just move that closing up to tomorrow! :-)
PRAYING!!! and i giggled that you mentioned having sex. i don't know if i'd be thinking about that at 41 weeks. but it's worth the try right? lol. praying. and i don't know what i'd do if i had to deliver with a different doctor. at 41 weeks...i think i'd just cross my legs and wait a few more days. i mean really what is a few more days? ;0) ((coming from someone who's been induced with my last three babies and has never gone further than 40 weeks 2 days.))
ReplyDeleteoh man!!!! My Dr. was going out of town when it was time for Halle...she was born the day before Thanksgiving. He stretched my cervix and broke my membranes in the office and told me to have a "love session" with my hubby and he'd see me in labor within 48 hours. He was right. And no love session feels much lovey when you are 9+ months pregnant!
ReplyDeletePlease come today baby!!!!!!
