Brown Hairy Bucky Eager Beaver

I thought that title might get your attention. ;) I need your help. But first of all, a little background info.

In the past, when Luke and I were choosing names for our children it sort of came easily. With Elizabeth I had just finished reading the book of Luke and I was struck with the faithfulness of Elizabeth (John the Baptist's mother). Thus, Elizabeth.

Her middle name is Grace because 1) I had just experienced the life changing Grace of God in the form of a new relationship with Christ. And 2) We really liked it.

With the twins it was easy because once we found out they were boy/girl twins, we had the boy name solidified. Lucas has Luke's name. Easy peasy.

And, I think the name Ashlee is just beautiful. My former middle name (before I took my maiden name as my middle name) was Lee so that is why we went with Ashlee rather than Ashley. Ashlee's middle name is Faith.

We chose Aaron's name because we liked the name Aaron (plus it was a family name on my side) and his middle name, Thomas, has special significance to us with our journey to and through fostering.

Baby Girl's first name is one I've always liked (I'm hoping to be able to reveal it to you all SOON when she will be, hopefully, legally free for adoption. We are set to file her adoption on January 15th!! Then, there will be a 10 day waiting period - which usually stretches beyond 10 days - so hopefully by February 1st she'll be legal!) and her middle name will be Hope.

So for our girls their middle names are Grace, Faith and Hope. Sorta fruit-of-the-spirit-ish. That means if Baby #6 is a girl, then we would most likely stick with the fruit of the spirit-ish theme and her middle name will be Joy.

Geesh, can you imagine what we will do if we have another baby girl and continue with this theme? I can just picture myself yelling out the front door to my yard-frolicking children, "Self-Control Beaver! It's time to come in the house!" Er....or I can't imagine that.

Anyway, I feel like we pretty much have a couple solid girl names nailed down, with the middle name being Joy. If you're looking for me to spill the first-name beans here, you can keep looking. Luke and I like to torture surprise our friends and family and tell our birth childrens' names upon their arrival. My mom loathes this choice.

As for boy names, we keep coming up empty handed. I like the middle name Jesse because it is my grandfather's name (this granfather, my "Paw" if you're wondering and yes, that is whom I am named after) but for the life of us, we cannot come up with a first name that goes well with Jesse as a middle name and Beaver as a last name.

We have a few mediocre options but with the time a ticking (did you see that counter on the top-left sidebar...does that say 61ish days to go? Sweet cider that's soon!) I am feeling the pressure to have a couple solid name choices in my pocket.

SO here is where I need your input. What names can you think of that would be good for Baby #6 if he is a boy?

Here's the criteria:

1A) If you know me well enough IRL or even via this blog to choose a name it should have some sort of significance. It doesn't have to be deep, just significant. For example, I have blogged quite a bit about the book of Jeremiah. So that could be significant enough. Then, choose an alternate middle name.

or

1B) It can be a random name that goes well with Jesse, since that already has significance and we are struggling to find a first name.

2) It MUST go nicely with the last name Beaver (duh!). I realize there is a significant temptation to submit to me the name "Brown" or "Hairy" or "Bucky" but please refrain. I mean, come on people, it's not like I haven't heard them ALL before.

If you submit a name and we end up choosing it, I wish I could tell you that you would win some sort of a fancy prize but, truth be told, you'll just get the joy of boasting about your name entry sometime mid-March when Baby #6 makes his or her appearance.

SO, let the name game begin. I'm an Eager Beaver to see what you come up with!

  1. I really like the names Ethan and Noah. Especially Ethan. Not those together though. And they don't really go with Jesse either.

The name Carter is good too.

Hmm.. this probably won't help at all.

  2. I like the name Micheal Jesse Beaver but that is just a idea

    Caleb Jesse Beaver
    Daniel Jesse Beaver
    Eli Jesse Beaver
    Isreal Jesse Beaver
    Levi Jesse Beaver
    Philip Jesse Beaver
    Reuben Jesse Beaver
    Tobias Jesse Beaver

just to name a couple...I love coming up with names...hence my son has 5 :)

  4. Um, don't go with Noah. Or Daniel or Isaac. 'Cause life is confusing enough when we're all together.

However, I have spent way too much time thinking about this for you... so here is what I came up with (you only need a boy name, right?):

David Jesse Beaver- means "beloved," and is also not used much these days. It also sounds good with your crew of boys...Luke, Lucas, Aaron, David, etc.

Isaiah Jesse Beaver- means "God is my Salvation." Awesome meaning of course...but, you may get tired of spelling it out for people. "Jesse means "wealthy", so the meanings go well together (I am wealthy because God is my salvation). I love the sound of it with Jesse and Beaver, and it sounds good with your other boys.

Matthew Jesse Beaver-means "gift of God." Again, sounds good, nice meaning.

And finally, I'll add Wyatt to the list, just because it sounds cool.

Do I win? Do I win?

  7. Skylar... I wasn't putting Noah down because it was your suggestion... it's my husband's name and it makes it confusing when there are more than one Noahs in the room. It's not so unusual anymore. Much to my husband's dismay, we know about 10 Noah's under the age of 8. I'm totally serious. For some reason it has become a very popular name...

Sorry if I caused any offense :-)

  8. 1. Isaiah--you mentioned Jeremiah, this is another good prophet.

    2. David--goes well with Jesse.

    3. Michael--doesn't go quite as well as David, but still a good name.

    4. Daniel--Daniel in the lions' den; goes with Jesse

I think all four go well with Beaver!

  9. I like what "just me" said.. David Jesse Beaver. David isn't used much anymore, sounds great with Jesse, and goes well with your other boy names. Maybe, Samuel Jesse Beaver... I like the way Samuel Beaver sounds.

  10. Okay, assuming that Rocko and Ringo are out, here are a few thoughts:

Hayden Jesse Beaver - I like Hayden Beaver but then again, you'd have to answer the whole "boy or girl" question....

Levi is out as getting together with the Rollins would be confusing.

My favorite boy name is Caleb. Put with that Joshua (faith, courage, dependable are words that come to mind with both of them as well as promises fulfilled). Caleb Jesse Beaver, Joshua Jesse Beaver (JJ? ehhhh....)

I thought about Chase but then laughed at Chase Beaver (no offense).

If I did David, I'd do Jesse David which is the way the lineage of Christ is listed. Was gonna suggest sixth in the lineage of Christ but that would be Hezron (I think). Doubt that would work.

Collin Jesse Beaver? Nathanael Jesse Beaver?

Michael was the most used name for a boy in the 90's. And besides, Michael B would think you named your son after him. (SMILE!)

Does Jesse have to be his middle name? If not, names like Jesse Walker, Jesse Thomas, Jesse Nathanael...

Actually, I like Nathanael Jesse the best. You can shorten it to Nathan Beaver or leave it Nathanael. Luke, Lucas, Aaron and Nathan or Luke, Lucas, Aaron and Nathanael. Yep. That works!

  11. for the record...I suggested Annabelle!! And they used it. Okay, maybe it was already on their short list, I dunno, but still... :)
I personally think that Self-Control Beaver is about as good as anything. LOL! LOVE it! ;)
Why not use Jesse as a first name and his middle name could be James?
Oh I am so stinkin' funny. (okay maybe not)
Please forgive me. I've been in bed all day today recovering and I'm a bit goofy.
I will come back when more of my brain cells are firing.
I think it is very naughty of you to keep the name a secret.
However, it will keep every other person in the world from suggesting you change it to something else! :) Wiat- I just read Beth's suggestions and I concur. Matthew- gift of God was on my mind as was Daniel.

  12. I know you like Jeremiah, but PLEASE don't name your son Jeremy. I would just be weird...and it might give me cause to be worried about my best friend and my husband. It's true. Holly did suggest Annabelle. I think that must have stuck in my subconscious somewhere because when I saw it on a baby name list, it just clicked. It helped that it had "Ann" in it and that it meant "Grace" thus honoring Jeremy's mother and making my Dad happy. I digress....

In all honesty, I like Jesse for the first name. I know it would be confusing since you would both end up being called Jess probably. But, you get by with Luke and Lucas. I just like it. Then you could name him Jesse James Beaver! Yes! Do it!

  13. Or, how about Laston Beaver?

    Just sayin'.

  14. I have to say that J.Shore's suggestions of Caleb and Nathan are GREAT! heeheehee

My suggestion is Dillon Jesse Beaver. Dillon means faithful in Gaelic and I truly see you guys having this child as being faithful unto the Lord. (Amon is Hebrew for faithful, but I didn't like it as much.)

I think I would go with Patience or even Charity (KJV for love) before Self-Control Beaver, but that is just me...heeheehee

  15. I am loving Ethan and Nathan but I also love Ezekial. We have an Ezekial in our church but he is called Zeke for short. Love it! And so different!

  16. I actually think Jeremiah Jesse Beaver sounds good. :) I would also agree with the popular likeness of David Jesse Beaver. OR, like somebody said, using Jesse as a first name! Also, I bet your grandpa would like that. :) I don't know you IRL so I find it much harder to suggest random boys names. ;)

  17. As a mom of all girls... I never had the privilege of naming a boy so I won't comment on that. I just love your little girls' middle names :-)

    My oldest is Vanessa Joy
    the third is Brianna Grace
    and the youngest Christina Faith

Hope was on the list - Justice for a boy... Anyway, fun to meet someone else who used those names. Angela

  18. Amos- taken. sorry. Just kidding. I wouldn't be offended- after all, we have NO clue who our children are or if they will keep their given names.

  19. I LOVE naming babies ... and I have a LOT of practice. I also LOVE that you don't know (or aren't telling) whether it's a girl or boy. Yippee! Surprises are BEST!!!

Let me comment on some of your other comments ...

    1. having a son called Jess, when mama is called Jess, might get him teased: "you were named after your mommy". Not best.

    2. The name Jeremiah is a wonderful name, and he would NOT have to go by Jeremy. When my son was 4 years old he began telling people, "My name is not Jeremy, it is JEREMIAH!" How about Jeremiah David? (yea ... that's my son's name.)

    3. With all of your other Bible names for boys ... stick with the Bible name. I was going to name one of my boys Tyler ... and my nurse, who was a friend, said, "No way! Tyler doesn't go with Jim, Gregg, Jeremiah ... all "strong" names." My husband had liked "Joshua" and my friend made the final call (after little guy was born and waiting for his name).

    4. David Jesse and Matthew Jesse were both good suggestions. Oh ... I really like Samuel Jesse. I always like to have different amounts of syllables in first and middle. So, I like Samuel (3) Jesse (2) better than the other suggestions. Especially since Beaver has 2 also. Since our last name has 5 syllables, we didn't have to worry about the last name.

    5. How about Benjamin Jesse Beaver. Oohhh ... I really like that. Or, maybe, Benjamin Jeremiah?

I am sure glad that we didn't start any little "cute name games" that we would have had to keep up for 13 children. Yikes! Can you imagine 13 J names (isn't that what the Duggar's did?) So NOT me. I had a friend growing up that had 6 "W" names, and another family had 5 "T" names.

Have fun with the name game. Can't wait to find out.

  20. Had to tell you my funny name story.

My maiden name was Pitts. So I got the ... is your brother's name Hairy Pitts ... or we had Peach Pitts ... or Arm Pitts. Yea! My brothers names were David and John Pitts and the family across the street had David and John Plumb. So, we had the Plumb Pitts.

Anyway, my parents were GOING to name me Cheryl instead of Laurel. Then (thankfully) they realized that they would call me Cheri (instead of Laurie). And ... Cheri looked a little too close to Cherry Pitts. Yea ... kinda like the name Laurel.

    :) :) :)

  21. I think Liam Jesse Beaver, Elijah Jesse Beaver, Ian Jesse Beaver... Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I meant to add that Liam means "strong willed warrior", Elijah "the LORD is my GOD", and Ian "GOD is gracious".
